If you did not receive the email from the Triangle MLS announcing the launch of the Carolina Data Share, we have included the announcement letter below.
"Carolina Data Share (CDS) has Launched"
Triangle MLS is proud to announce the launch of Carolina Data Share (CDS). North Carolina’s six largest multiple listing service (MLS) organizations from the mountains to the coast have launched a program to share IDX listing information for display on brokerage Web sites. CDS gives the REALTORS® of the six participating MLSs the ability to compete against Web sites of national aggregates, which claim to be comprehensive sources of listing information.
CDS aggregates MLS IDX listing information in to a single data base creating the most comprehensive selection of active real-estate listing information available in the state. Buyers benefit because they will have access to more listings. Sellers benefit because their listing can be advertised on REALTORS® Web sites across North Carolina. Unless a broker or seller opts out of the program, his or her listings can appear on the Web sites of thousands of brokers and agents.
WolfNet Technologies was selected to develop this product and host its data. Joel MacIntosh, WolfNet’s CEO, says, “We applaud the CDS member MLSs for their insight, innovation, and cooperative spirit in making this project a reality for their members.”
What MLSs are participating in CDS?
The MLSs actively involved in the CDS project are: Brunswick County Association of Realtors® (Brunswick, Bladen and Columbus counties); Carolina Multiple Listing Services, Inc. (Charlotte-metropolitan area); North Carolina Mountains MLS (Asheville, Brevard, Hendersonville and Waynesville metropolitan areas); Triad MLS, Inc. (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point metropolitan areas); Triangle MLS, Inc. (Wake, Durham, Johnston, Orange, and portions of 12 other North Carolina counties); and Wilmington Association of Realtors® (Wilmington area). All other MLSs in the Carolinas will be invited to take part in CDS sometime next year.
If you are interested in adding CDS data to your firm or agent Web site, please contact the vendor that manages your Web site to see if he/she will be offering the product. Brokers-In-Charge must go into the online-signup at http://idx.trianglemls.com/setup/ to select the vendor(s) they will be using to create their CDS enriched site and to give their agents permission to display CDS data on their web site. Vendors are also required to use the online sign-up if they are adding CDS to their services.
What data is in the CDS database?
The aggregated database includes all the property types that each MLS was making available through their IDX Web site. There are some significant differences between the IDX and CDS data. Here are some of the differences:
- The CDS property classes:
- Boat
- Commercial improved and unimproved
- Condominium
- Land
- Multi-family
- Residential
- Rental
- Vacation
- Contingent listings will appear as “Conditional”. Conditional listings, just like Contingent listings, are properties with a signed purchase agreement and the seller wishes to continue to market the property.
- There are many new data fields to reflect the property descriptions in other markets. For example: Topograph, LotWaterFeatures, RailroadFrontage, etc.
- Some MLSs use square foot ranges, so the actual square foot measurement will not appear in the listing.
